Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)

Positive behavior and school climate are priorities at Nicollet Public School. PBIS is a program that Nicollet is using to reinforce a positive atmosphere throughout the school and community. PBIS is a proactive approach to school-wide discipline. This initiative is meant to reinforce the positive behaviors of students, doing what is expected of them as well as supporting students who need extra assistance to reach the school wide expectations. This program helps to emphasize the importance of prevention, social skills, instruction, and data based decision making to reduce problem behaviors and improve academic performance. Nicollet focuses on positive behaviors school wide. When positive behavior support interventions are used, changes in attitude and behavior of both the teacher and the student are likely to occur. Raider Pride has four positive behavior expectations. They are: Be RESPONSIBLE, RESPECTFUL, POSTIVE, and SAFE. When behaviors are followed and exhibited this behavior is recognized through "Raider Pride" slips that are handed out to individual students and are collected each week. Every Friday a name from each grade is drawn and a student is awarded special recognition; this could include an array of different prize options.
